Giving Back

The Reddam House motto is “We Shall Give Back” and as members of the South African community, we believe that our school has a responsibility to work towards a society where all citizens are treated equally. By working in our community, we aim to improve the lives of those less fortunate than us.

Reddam House believes that the purpose of Community Service and Social Leadership is to encourage students to develop an understanding of civic responsibility and the role they can play in supporting and strengthening their communities.

Community involvement increases student awareness of the needs of others and helps young learners to see how they can make a positive difference. Giving back and seeing the results of this work, enhances the self-image of our students and fosters a sense of belonging to the wider community beyond their immediate surroundings.

Recent Projects

Mandela Day

Reddam House Bedfordview proudly honoured the legacy of Nelson Mandela through a meaningful day of service, embracing the spirit of 67 Minutes of Giving Back. This initiative reflects Madiba’s lifelong commitment to humanity and his 67 years dedicated to public service.

From our youngest learners to our College students, the entire school community came together to make a difference. Children aged 2 years to Grade 3 prepared thoughtful care packages filled with books, sweets, hygiene items and handmade bookmarks. Grade 4 to 7 learners assembled “Bags of Hope” (soup packs), while Grade 8 to 12 students contributed preloved clothing.

These generous donations were carefully sorted and packed into over 600 bags, which were distributed to a range of local charities, supporting individuals and families in need.

Slipper Day - 2025

Slipper Day - 2025

In support of this year’s Slipper Day, staff and students at Reddam House Bedfordview came together to make a meaningful difference. By donating R20, participants swapped their school shoes for slippers, slides and Crocs — adding a touch of comfort, colour and fun to the day.
This initiative supports the incredible work of Reach for a Dream Foundation, which raises funds to fulfil the dreams of children facing life-threatening illnesses.

It is a small gesture that carries a powerful impact, bringing joy, hope and unforgettable moments to young dreamers.
We extend our sincere thanks to every member of our community who contributed so generously.

Isibindi Crèche

Our social outreach team recently travelled to the Drakensberg to support the Isibindi Crèche, located within an informal settlement. The crèche, made up of two container classrooms, was in need of upliftment, and our team set to work transforming the space.

The exterior was repainted in bright, cheerful colours, while vibrant murals were added to create an engaging and welcoming environment for the children. The crèche signage was also refreshed, ensuring a warm and inviting entrance.
Alongside these improvements, generous donations of clothing, books and toys were provided to support the daily needs and development of the preschoolers. These contributions were met with great excitement and appreciation.

The most meaningful moments came from time spent with the children — playing games, singing songs and sharing laughter. These interactions reminded us that true impact lies not only in what we give, but in the connections we build.
We extend our sincere thanks to all students, families, and partners who contributed, including DIY Depot and the Texiera family for their generous support.
